NXDN¶
NXDN (Next Generation Digital Narrowband) is a digital voice protocol jointly developed by Icom and Kenwood, popular with commercial and public-safety radios repurposed for amateur use. WPSD can bridge your hotspot onto the amateur NXDN reflector network.
To begin, in the MMDVMHost Modem Configuration section, toggle NXDN mode on. Apply Changes to save the configuration. After the hotspot re-starts and the page returns, scroll to the NXDN Configuration section.
Set an NXDN Hosts startup host. Like P25, NXDN reflectors are identified by a numeric ID rather than a friendly name. You may also choose none to start unlinked, or 10 - Parrot to test your setup by talking to yourself.
If your radio or local convention requires a specific Radio Access Number (RAN), an NXDN RAN field will appear once one is set in your configuration; otherwise you can leave this alone.
If you have followed the instructions correctly, on your Dashboard in Mode Status, you should see NXDN green, and in Network Status, you should see NXDN Net green.
You have completed configuring your hotspot for NXDN mode.
Linking and unlinking reflectors¶
Once NXDN mode is running, use the NXDN Manager page (Admin -> NXDN Manager) to pick a reflector from the dropdown and Link or Unlink on demand, the same way the P25 and YSF Managers work. This is a temporary link — it reverts to your configured startup host the next time the hotspot restarts (such as during nightly maintenance).
Note
The NXDN Manager page requires NXDNGateway’s Remote Commands to be enabled, which is on by default in a stock WPSD installation. If the NXDN Manager menu item is greyed out, go back and confirm NXDN mode is toggled on in the Configuration page.
